" Europe today has to confront the walls and the dividing lines that keep rising within its territory, and which are incompatible with our common European vision and the Europe of open borders and equal opportunities we have all dreamt of, and this, today brings Europe to the challenge and duty to redefine the values and ideals of our continent, such as solidarity and cooperation with a developmental sign.", said the chairman of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities KEDE G. Patoulis welcoming the opening of the 7th Greek-German Assembly in the city of Sindelfingen, Germany.
The Greek Mayor of Marousi, Attica, and chairman of the Central Greek Municipalities Union, expressed in his speech his conviction that cross-border partnerships at local and regional level contribute substantially to solving the problems and challenges faced by municipalities and regions across Europe, and stressed the importance of the work that has been done lately, based on the cooperation of tthe two countries, Germany and Greece on significant intiatives that have been taken for the support of Greek Muncialities, such as the refugee crisis management, the free provision of ambulances to municipalities, the exchange of know-how on issues such as waste management, energy and environmental protection, promotion of cooperation between Greek and German chambers and many more
In the presence of 480 participants, of which 185 Greek representatives from the Local Government, Mr. Patoulis stressed t that the 7th Greek-German Assembly sends a loud message that highlights the power of the local government and characterized the Assembly referring to a "very important initiative given the current situation in Europe" .
The event was welcomed by Mayor Sindelfingen, Bernd Vöhringer, Gerhard Bauer, Schwäbisch Hall and Justice and European Affairs Minister of the Land of Baden-Württemberg, Mr. Guido Wolf.
