In the Province of Elassona in the prefecture of Larissa, the special Easter custom in some of the villages takes place, the women dance of Lazarines . It is a custom held through the centuries associated with the season of spring, on the day of resurrection of Lazarus Saturday, one .week prior to the Orthdox Easter
On the eve of the feast, the Lazarines, as the girls of the village that participate in the custom are called, spread into the blooming fields of the Greek mailand and gather flowers to adorned their small baskets. Wearing traditional costumes, the Lazarines by the custom's tradition start from the square and head for the church yard where they took the Vaia from the priest, the palm tree leaves blessed by the Orthodox church ceremony of the Day, which celebrates the entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem, where he was welcpmed by Palm leaves. Following the tradition's ritual the Lazarines while recieving palm leaves in the churchyard sang traditional songs with religious references.
