SAFE Food, NOT Diarrhea, Food Safety tips 4Greece
Preventing Travelers’ Diarrhea

travel-related illness, affecting up to half of international travelers.
Most diarrhea is “uncomplicated,” and will usually resolve on its own in a few days.
People visiting Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, are the most likely to get it. It's rarely serious and almost always goes away on its own. Still, you can take steps to prevent it that can also help stop more serious illnesses like cholera.
In short, the Greek CDC recommends avoiding tap water, food sold by street vendors, raw or undercooked meats and seafood, and unpeeled fruits and veggies.
Recognize it : These are the symptoms
The symptoms of uncomplicated diarrhea include:
- Bloating or cramping
- Thin or loose stool
- Watery stool
- Frequent or urgent-feeling bowel movements
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Mild fever

Inspect where you eat

Don’t eat at a place that looks dirty. I know, the road side stands have the best food, and they can often be safer than a normal restaurant. Travel health is all about risk management. Is it is worth the chance? This is an individual choice.
The salads
Of outbreaks caused by infected food workers, 54% involve food workers touching ready-to-eat-foods with their bare hands

- Ready-to-eat foods are foods that are ready to be served without additional preparation, such as washed raw fruits and vegetables for salads or sandwiches, baked goods, or items that have already been cooked.
